US 181 Harbor Bridge Project to host Public Hearing on December 8

Flatiron/Dragados, LLC, in conjunction with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Corpus Christi District, will conduct a PUBLIC HEARING to present proposed design modifications to the US 181 Harbor Bridge Project. The meeting details are:

Thursday, December 8, 2016
3 p.m.
Corpus Christi City Hall-Council Chambers
1201 Leopard Street
Corpus Christi, Texas 78401

The purpose of the hearing is to allow the public an opportunity to view and comment on proposed design modifications to the Recommended (Red) Alternative as presented in the January 2016 Record of Decision for US 181 Harbor Bridge Project.

The Recommended Alternative, as presented in the January 2016 Record of Decision for Harbor Bridge Project, required 5.36 acres of new right-of-way from the T.C. Ayers Park property. The current proposed design modifications will require approximately 1.0-acre net increase in the amount of right-of-way required from the park property. Because the design modifications will include right-of-way takings from a designated public property (i.e., a public park), the proposed design is subject to a Public Hearing under Chapter 26 of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Code and Section 4(f) of the Department of Transportation Act of 1966. Therefore, this Public Hearing will be conducted in accordance with both of these regulations in order to allow the public the opportunity to review proposed project details and provide comments. In addition, concepts to mitigate for impacts to the park will be presented at the hearing.

The hearing will follow the Corpus Christi Metropolitan Planning Organization, Transportation Policy Committee Meeting and will begin at 3 p.m. The project team, consisting of members of Flatiron/Dragados, LLC and TxDOT, will also be available to receive public comments.

The proposed project design changes, potential park impacts, and proposed mitigation options will be available for review at the public hearing. All interested citizens are invited to attend this public hearing to provide comment regarding the proposed modifications to the project. Written comments may be presented in person at the public hearing or submitted no later than Friday, December 30, 2016, in order to be included in the public hearing record. A court reporter will be present to record oral comments at the public hearing.

Additional information about the project is available by contacting Lorette Williams, Flatiron/Dragados LLC, Public Information Coordinator, at (361) 288-2900 or publicinformation@harborbridgeproject.com.

About the Harbor Bridge Project: The nearly $900 million project will include the development, design and construction of just over six miles of combined bridge and roadway. It will include the new six-lane Harbor Bridge, as well as, the reconstruction of approximately 1.6 miles of IH-37 and approximately one mile of the Crosstown Expressway. Once the new bridge is open to the traveling public, the project will conclude with the demolition of the existing Harbor Bridge. It is anticipated that the project will take five years to complete.
