Upcoming Harbor Bridge Project closures to affect Port Avenue intersection at IH 37

CORPUS CHRISTI – The intersection at IH 37 and Port Avenue will be closed from Wednesday, June 27, 2018 through Tuesday, July 3, 2018 as part of the Harbor Bridge Project. The northbound and southbound lanes of Port Avenue will be reduced to one lane as motorists approach the IH 37/Port Avenue intersection. The closures and lane reductions are necessary for the demolition of the IH 37 southbound sections of the Port Avenue Bridge.

Frontage roads will remain open and detours will be in place. Please see attached detour map. All work is weather permitting. Port Avenue Bridge demolition work will not begin until the completion of the Nueces Bay Bridge demolition project, scheduled to begin Friday, June 22, due to weather delays. Bridge demos will not take place concurrently.

The Port Avenue Bridge will be reconstructed as part of the Harbor Bridge project.

Motorists are urged to be aware of the lane closures, to consider using alternate routes, to follow all traffic control devices, and to slow down in the work zones.

###

About the Harbor Bridge Project:  The nearly $900 million US 181 Harbor Bridge project will include the development, design and construction of just over six miles of combined bridge and roadway.  It will include the new six-lane Harbor Bridge, as well as, the reconstruction of approximately 1.6 miles of IH-37 and approximately one mile of the Crosstown Expressway.  Once the new bridge is open to the traveling public, the project will conclude with the demolition of the existing Harbor Bridge.  It is anticipated that the project will take five years to complete.
