TEMPORARY MAINLANE CLOSURES:  On Sunday, August 15, from 2 pm until 6 am Monday, August 16, the following temporary mainlane closures will be in place to shift traffic onto a new detour route opening the next day.  Southbound IH 37 will be reduced to one lane near the SH 286 Interchange and all northbound SH 286 lanes from Comanche Street to the IH 37 Interchange will be closed with a detour described below.

Motorists heading northbound on SH 286 will take the Comanche Street exit and follow the frontage road to the new Antelope Street and northbound US 181 detour to continue towards Portland, and to access the Uptown and Bayfront areas.

Traffic heading southbound on IH 37 towards the Bayfront and Portland may experience delays due to a mainlane reduction.

NEW DETOUR:  Beginning Monday, August 16, a traffic switch onto the new Antelope Street and northbound US 181 detour will affect motorists heading northbound on SH 286. The following new and temporary movements will be replaced by a final configuration at a later date.

ROUTE I: Motorists heading northbound on SH 286 to northbound IH 37 will follow the newly opened detour to Antelope Street and follow the signs to cross over the Staples Street Bridge and take Martin Luther King Drive back to northbound IH 37.

ROUTE II:  Motorists heading northbound on SH 286 towards North Beach and Portland will take the newly opened detour to access northbound US 181.

ROUTE III:  Motorists heading northbound on SH 286 to southbound IH 37 can access the Uptown and Bayfront areas by taking the northbound SH 286 Comanche Street exit ramp or by following the new detour to Antelope Street.

Please refer to the attached map for closures and detour routes. Portable message signs will be in place to assist motorists with navigating the alternate routes.

Motorists are urged to be aware of the mainlane closures and new detour, consider using alternate routes, follow all traffic control devices, and to slow down in the work zones.  All work is weather permitting.
