Beginning August 21, the northbound IH 37 exit ramp to Nueces Bay Boulevard will be closed

CORPUS CHRISTI –Beginning Wednesday, August 21, 2019 through Thursday, August 22, 2019 the northbound IH 37 exit ramp to Nueces Bay Boulevard will be closed.  The closure will take place between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. and is necessary to complete drainage work on IH 37. All work is weather permitting.

Motorists needing to access the area near the ramp closure should exit Up River Road and make a U-turn onto the southbound IH 37 frontage road to access Nueces Bay Boulevard.  Motorists heading southbound on IH 37 and needing to exit in this area, will need to utilize the Buddy Lawrence exit ramp.

Motorists are urged to be aware of the lane closures, to consider using alternate routes, to follow all traffic control devices, and to slow down in the work zones.

Beginning August 14, the newly constructed Comanche Street Bridge now open to traffic

CORPUS CHRISTI –Beginning Wednesday, August 14, 2019 the newly constructed Comanche Street Bridge will be open to motorists.   The original structure was demolished and reconstructed as part of the Harbor Bridge Project.  Traffic patterns near the bridge will include the opening of Comanche Street from Coke Street to Mexico Street, two lanes of Culberson Street, south of Comanche Street and the southbound SH 286 entrance ramp. All way stops will be in place at the Comanche Street and Culberson Street intersection.  Pedestrian access on the new Comanche Street Bridge is still under construction.  Pedestrian access will be available via the Lipan Street Bridge, until further notice. Construction plans include the closing of Lipan Street for demolition of the Lipan Street Bridge, which is expected to begin later this fall.

Beginning July 24, traffic switch to affect North Beach area

CORPUS CHRISTI –Beginning Wednesday, July 24, 2019 traffic on the northbound US 181 frontage road between Burleson Street and Avenue F will be detoured to the newly constructed southbound Joe Fulton Corridor as part of the Harbor Bridge Project. The traffic switch will include opening the newly constructed southbound Joe Fulton Corridor road to two-way traffic. Traffic signs will assist with navigating motorists through the newly created route.   Please see below map for more information.  All work is weather permitting.

July 9, 2019 lane closure to affect SH 286 (Crosstown Expressway)

CORPUS CHRISTI –Beginning Tuesday, July 9, 2019 through Friday, July 12, 2019 the northbound SH 286 (Crosstown Expressway) right lane will be closed between IH 37 and Agnes Street.  The closure will take place between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. and is necessary to complete work related to construction of SH 286.  All work is weather permitting.

July 8, 2019 full freeway closures to affect traffic near the IH 37/ SH 286 interchange

CORPUS CHRISTI –On Monday, July 8, 2019 intermittent closures will affect overnight northbound and southbound traffic near the IH 37/SH 286 interchange. The intermittent, full freeway closures will last approximately 15 minutes per closure and will take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night.  The intermittent closures will take place on IH 37 between Alameda Street and Staples Street.  The closures are necessary to complete overhead work related to construction of the Staples Street Bridge. All work is weather permitting.

June 28, 2019 nightly lane closures to affect near IH 37/SH 286 interchange

CORPUS CHRISTI – Various lane closures affecting traffic traveling within the IH37/SH 286 interchange will take place beginning June 29, 2019, to July 01, 2019 as part of the Harbor Bridge Project. Work is scheduled to be complete prior to the July 4 holiday weekend. All work is weather permitting. A detailed listing of closures is included below.

On Saturday, June 29, 2019 the following closures will be in effect:

IH 37 northbound and southbound lanes will be closed intermittently between Alameda Street and Staples Street. The intermittent, full-freeway closures will take place between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. and will last approximately 15 minutes per closure.

On Sunday, June 30, 2019 the following closures will be in effect:

Southbound right lane of IH 37 will be closed from Stillman Avenue to Port Avenue from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Southbound IH 37 exit ramp to Port Avenue will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

CORPUS CHRISTI – Various nightly lane closures on IH 37 main lanes will take place between SH 286 (Crosstown Expressway) and Tancahua Street beginning Thursday, June 20, 2019 through July 31, 2019 as part of the Harbor Bridge Project. Intermittent nightly closures affecting the northbound and southbound main lanes of IH 37 will not last more than 24 hours. Frontage roads will remain open. All work is weather permitting.

The lane closures are necessary to construct the new Staples Street Bridge.

May 31, 2019 nightly ramp closures to affect IH 37 and SH 286 (Crosstown Expressway)

CORPUS CHRISTI – Various ramp closures affecting traffic traveling within the IH 37/SH 286 interchange will take place over night on Friday, May 31, 2019.  All closures will take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. as part of the Harbor Bridge Project.  The closures are necessary to set barrier along southbound SH 286 (Crosstown Expressway).  All work is weather permitting.  A detailed listing of closures is included below.

Short-Term Ramp Closures

Beginning Friday, May 31, 2019, between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following ramp closures will be in effect.  The IH 37 direct connectors will not be closed concurrently.

  • The southbound IH 37 direct connector to southbound SH 286 will be closed.  Motorists needing to access southbound SH 286 in this area will need to utilize the Port Avenue exit ramp.
  • The northbound IH 37 direct connector to southbound SH 286 will be closed.  Motorists needing to access southbound SH 286 in this area will need to utilize the U-turn at Up River Road exit.
  • The southbound SH 286 entrance ramp from Leopard Street will be closed.  Motorists needing to access southbound SH 286 in this area will need to utilize the Comanche Street entrance ramp.

CORPUS CHRISTI – Beginning May 29, 2019, long-term ramp closures will affect southbound traffic on SH 286 (Crosstown Expressway) between Leopard Street and Agnes Street.  All work is weather permitting. A detailed listing of closures is included below.

Beginning May 29, 2019 to July 31, 2019 the following ramp closure will be in effect:

The southbound exit ramp from SH 286 (Crosstown Expressway) to Laredo/Agnes Streets will be closed for the construction of the SH 286 southbound frontage road (Culberson St.)  Motorists needing to exit southbound SH 286 in this area will need to utilize the Morgan Avenue exit ramp.

Beginning May 29, 2019 to July 31, 2019 the following ramp closure will be in effect:

The southbound entrance ramp to SH 286 (Crosstown Expressway) south of Comanche Street will be closed for the construction of the SH 286 southbound frontage road (Culberson St.)  Motorists needing to enter southbound SH 286 in this area will need to utilize the SH 286 entrance ramp south of Agnes Street.

Detour routes will be established and traffic signs will assist with navigating motorists through alternative routes.

On Tuesday, May 7, 2019 closures to affect Nueces Bay Boulevard

CORPUS CHRISTI – The intersection at IH 37 and Nueces Bay Boulevard will be closed on Tuesday, May 7,

2019, from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. as part of the Harbor Bridge Project.  The closures are necessary for the construction of the Nueces Bay Bridge.

Frontage roads will remain open and detours will be in place. Please see attached detour map. All work is weather permitting.

Beginning Monday, April 15, 2019 lane reductions to affect Leopard Street

As part of the construction related to the Harbor Bridge, Leopard Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Lester Street and Mexico Street.  The lane reductions will go into effect Monday, April 15, 2019 and will last until December 31, 2019.   The lane reductions are necessary to construct bridge footings in this area.  All work is weather permitting.

Beginning Friday, March 29, 2019 closure to affect main lanes of IH 37

Upcoming short-term, nightly closures will affect the main lanes of IH 37 between Buddy Lawrence Drive and SH 286 (Crosstown Expressway) beginning Friday, March 29, 2019 as part of the Harbor Bridge Project.  All work is weather permitting.  A detailed listing of closures is included below.

Beginning Friday, March 29, 2019 between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., the following closures will take place:

  • Southbound IH 37 main lanes between Buddy Lawrence Drive and SH 286

Beginning Saturday, March 30, 2019 between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., the following closures will take place:

  • Northbound IH 37 main lanes between SH 286 and Buddy Lawrence Drive

The closures are necessary to complete road maintenance work. Frontage roads will remain open and detours will be in place.

Beginning Thursday, March 21, 2019 closure to affect northbound SH 286/IH 37 exit ramp

The intersection at IH 37 and Nueces Bay Boulevard will be closed on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. as part of the Harbor Bridge Project. The closures are necessary for the construction of the Nueces Bay Bridge. Frontage roads will remain open and detours will be in place. Please see attached detour map. All work is weather permitting.

Beginning Tuesday, February 19, 2019 closures to affect Nueces Bay intersection at IH 37

The intersection at IH 37 and Nueces Bay Boulevard will be closed on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. as part of the Harbor Bridge Project. The closures are necessary for the construction of the Nueces Bay Bridge. Frontage roads will remain open and detours will be in place. Please see attached detour map. All work is weather permitting.

Beginning Wednesday, February 13, 2019 to April 2019

The northbound lanes of IH 37 frontage road (Martin Luther King Drive) will be reduced to one lane between Brownlee Boulevard and Port Avenue beginning Wednesday, February 13, 2019 to April 2019 as part of the Harbor Bridge Project. The lane reductions are necessary to complete drainage work on northbound IH 37 frontage road (Martin Luther King Drive).  All work is weather permitting.

Beginning Monday, January 21 through Tuesday, January 22

The northbound main lanes of IH 37 will be closed nightly between Tanchaua Street and SH 286 (Crosstown Expressway) on Monday, January 21, 2019 and Tuesday, January 22, 2019 as part of the Harbor Bridge Project. This is a full freeway closure. The closures will take place overnight beginning at 9 p.m. and ending at 6 a.m. and are necessary to set beams for construction of the new Staples Street Bridge. All work is weather permitting. Frontage roads will remain open and detours will be in place. See attached map for recommended alternate routes for motorists during the IH 37 overnight closures.

Commercial truck traffic traveling the Harbor Bridge during this time period is encouraged to utilize the Joe Fulton Corridor as an alternate route.

Beginning Thursday, January 10 through Sunday, January 13

The main lanes of IH 37 will be closed nightly between Tanchaua Street and SH 286 (Crosstown Expressway). This is a full freeway closure.  The closures will take place overnight beginning at 9 p.m. and ending at 6 a.m. and are necessary to set beams for construction of the new Staples Street Bridge.

Frontage roads will remain open and detours will be in place.  See attached map for recommended alternate routes for motorists during the IH 37 overnight closures. All work is weather permitting.

Commercial truck traffic traveling the Harbor Bridge during this time period is encouraged to utilize the Joe Fulton Corridor as an alternate route.

The southbound IH 37 exit to Port Avenue will be closed between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. beginning Tuesday, December 11, 2018 through Thursday, December 13, 2018 as part of the Harbor Bridge Project.   The closure is necessary to complete drainage work on IH 37.  

Motorists heading southbound on IH 37 and needing to exit in this area, will need to utilize the Buddy Lawrence exit ramp.  All work is weather permitting.  

 

Beginning Thursday, November 15 closures to affect IH 37 exit ramps

Upcoming short-term closures will affect two IH 37 exit ramps

Beginning Thursday, November 15, 2018 between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following exit will be closed:

  • Northbound IH 37 exit ramp to Nueces Bay Boulevard.

Beginning Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 7 a.m. until Sunday, November 18, 2018, 2 p.m. the following exit will be closed

  • Southbound IH 37 exit ramp to Port Avenue.

The closures are necessary to complete drainage work on IH 37.   The Brownlee exit ramp that is currently closed, will open temporarily during the stated closures so motorists may exit northbound IH 37 in this area.  Motorists heading southbound on IH 37 and needing to exit in this area, will need to utilize the Buddy Lawrence exit ramp. All work is weather permitting. 

 

Beginning Thursday, November 8 closures to affect IH 37 exit ramps

Beginning Thursday, November 8, 2018 between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following exit will be closed:

  • Northbound IH 37 exit ramp to Nueces Bay Boulevard.

Beginning Friday, November 9, 2018 between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following exit will be closed:

  • Southbound IH 37 exit ramp to Port Avenue.

Beginning Wednesday, October 24, 2018 through December 31, 2020 lane closures to affect US 181

Closures to include NB lane reductions

The northbound lanes of US 181 will be reduced to two lanes between Burleson Street and Beach Avenue beginning Wednesday, October 24, 2018 through December 31, 2020 as part of the Harbor Bridge Project.   The lane reductions are necessary to complete drainage work on US 181 and to complete the US 181 detour that will be utilized throughout construction.   The frontage road will remain open. All work is weather permitting. 

 

Beginning Monday, October 15, 2018 through March 2019 Upcoming Harbor Bridge Project closures to affect Port Avenue

Closures will affect Port Avenue intersection at IH 37/i>

The northbound and southbound lanes of Port Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction as motorists approach the IH 37/Port Avenue intersection. Lane reductions/closures will begin Monday, October 15, 2018 and remain through March 2019 as part of the Harbor Bridge Project. The closures and lane reductions are necessary for the reconstruction of the Port Avenue Bridge. Frontage roads will remain open. All work is weather permitting.
 

Beginning Wednesday, October 10, 2018 through December 31, 2018 Upcoming Harbor Bridge Project lane closures to affect US 181

Closures to include SB lane reductions

 The southbound lanes of US 181 will be reduced to two lanes between Beach Avenue and Burleson Street beginning Wednesday, October 10, 2018 through December 31, 2018 as part of the Harbor Bridge Project. The lane reductions are necessary to complete drainage work on US 181. The frontage road will remain open. All work is weather permitting.

Lane reductions/closures will begin Tuesday, August 28, 2018 and remain through June 2019 as part of the Harbor Bridge Project. The closures and lane reductions are necessary for the reconstruction of the Nueces Bay Bridge. Frontage roads will remain open.

Beginning Friday, August 10, 2018 through October 2018 Upcoming Harbor Bridge Project closures to affect IH 37

Closures to affect main lanes and frontage roads of IH 37 between North Port Avenue and Nueces Bay

Various daily and nightly lane closures on IH 37 main lanes and frontage roads will take place between North Port Avenue and Nueces Bay Boulevard beginning Friday, August 10, 2018 through October 2018 as part of the Harbor Bridge Project. Intermittent daily and nightly closures affecting the northbound and southbound main lanes of IH 37 and associated frontage roads will not last more than 24 hours. Frontage road closures and main lane closures will not take place concurrently. Frontage roads will remain open during main lane closures.

Beginning Monday, August 6, 2018 through March 2019 Upcoming Harbor Bridge Project closures to affect US 181

Closures to affect main lanes and frontage roads of US 181 between Burleson Street and Beach Avenue

Various daily and nightly lane closures on US 181 main lanes and frontage roads will take place between Burleson Street and Beach Avenue beginning Monday, August 6, 2018 through March 2019 as part of the Harbor Bridge Project. Intermittent daily and nightly closures affecting the northbound and southbound main lanes and frontage roads of US 181 will not last more than 24 hours.

Beginning June 23, 2018 to December 2018 Upcoming Harbor Bridge Project lane closures to affect southbound SH 286 frontage road

Closures to affect sidewalk access and on-street parking

Beginning June 23, 2018 to December 2018 the right lane of the southbound SH 286 frontage road (Culberson Street) from Mussett Street to Lipan Street will be closed as part of the Harbor Bridge Project. Sidewalks along this portion of southbound SH 286 frontage road will be closed to the public and on-street parking will be restricted. Driveway access will be accommodated in this area.

Beginning June 29, 2018 Upcoming Harbor Bridge Project traffic switch to affect North Beach area

Closures to result in two-way traffic on US 181 northbound frontage road

Beginning June 29, 2018 traffic on the southbound US 181 frontage road between Burleson Street and Beach Street will be detoured to the northbound frontage road of US 181 as part of the Harbor Bridge Project. The traffic switch will include two-way traffic movement in this area, where it was previously configured for one-way traffic only. Traffic signs will assist with navigating motorists through the newly created route. The traffic switch will remain in effect for approximately one year. Various daily and nightly lane closures on State Highway 286 (Crosstown Expressway) main lanes will take place between Agnes Street and Leopard Street beginning Monday, June 18, 2018 through September 2018 as part of the Harbor Bridge Project. Intermittent daily and nightly closures affecting the northbound and southbound main lanes of SH 286 will not last more than 24 hours. Frontage roads will remain open.

Long-Term Closure Beginning June 5, 2018 to December 2019 to affect northbound SH 286 Laredo/Agnes Street entrance ramp and frontage road

The northbound SH 286 frontage road (Brownlee Street) from Mussett Street to Lipan Street will be closed. See attached map for recommended alternate routes for access to uptown and IH37.

Permanent Closure Beginning June 5, 2018 to affect northbound SH 286 Laredo/Agnes Street entrance ramp and frontage road

The northbound SH 286 (Crosstown Expressway) entrance ramp from Laredo/Agnes Street will be closed.

Long-Term Closures Beginning May 23, 2018 until August 31, 2018 to affect traffic on IH 37 frontage roads

The northbound and southbound frontage roads on IH 37 between Buffalo Street and Staples Street will be closed.

REVISED–Beginning May 15, 2018 Upcoming Harbor Bridge Project closures to affect traffic on North Beach

Closures include northbound Beach Avenue Exit and portions of US 181 frontage road

Beginning May 15, 2018 the northbound US 181 Beach Avenue exit will be closed. Motorists traveling north must utilize the Burleson Street exit for access to North Beach. Additional short-term closures will affect various routes in the North Beach area of the Harbor Bridge Project work zone. A detailed listing of closures is included below.

REVISED–Permanent Closure Beginning May 15, 2018

The northbound US 181 Beach Avenue exit will be closed. Motorists traveling north must utilize the Burleson Street exit for access to North Beach.

REVISED–Short-Term Closures Beginning May 8, 2018 to June 8, 2018

Various daily lane closures will take place on the northbound US 181 frontage road between Burleson Street and Beach Avenue. Detour routes will be established and traffic signs will assist with navigating motorists through alternative routes.

Short-Term Closures Beginning April 30, 2018 to May 7, 2018

Various daily and nightly lane closures on IH 37 will take place between Buddy Lawrence Drive and State Highway 286 (Crosstown Expressway) in preparation for the long-term lane reductions and traffic shift listed below.

Long-Term Lane Reductions/Traffic Shift Beginning May 7, 2018 to April 2019 the following lane reductions and traffic shift will be in effect:

  • IH 37 northbound lane reductions will begin at State Highway 286 (Crosstown Expressway) and continue to Buddy Lawrence Drive. Lanes will be reduced from three lanes to two lanes.
  • IH 37 southbound lane reductions will begin at Buddy Lawrence Drive and continue to State Highway 286 (Crosstown Expressway). Lanes will be reduced from three lanes to two lanes.
  • IH 37 southbound traffic shifts to IH 37 northbound main lanes.

Long-Term Closures Beginning April 2, 2018 to April 2019 affect portions of IH 37 and US 181

  • Northbound IH 37 entrance ramp from Tancahua St. will be closed.
  • Northbound IH 37 exit ramp to Brownlee Blvd. will be closed.
  • Southbound IH 37 entrance ramp from Brownlee Blvd. will be closed.

Short-Term Closures Beginning April 2, 2018 to April 5, 2018 affect portions of IH 37 and US 181

Various daytime and nighttime lane closures near the IH 37 and US 181 interchange will occur in preparation for the long-term closures listed below.

Beginning January 29, 2018 to April 2019 the following closures will be in effect:

The left lane on northbound SH 286 (Crosstown Expressway) and the left lane on southbound SH 286 (Crosstown Expressway) will be closed between IH 37 and Agnes Street.

Beginning January 29, 2018 to February 2, 2018 the following closure will be in effect:

The entrance ramp to State Highway 286 (Crosstown Expressway) from northbound IH 37 will be reduced to one lane from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. overnight.

Beginning January 22, 2018 to January 25, 2018 the following closure will be in effect:

The entrance ramp to State Highway 286 (Crosstown Expressway) from Laredo Street will be closed beginning at 8 a.m. on January 22 through 10 p.m. on January 25.
