Beginning Saturday, October 5, 2019 the newly constructed Staples Street Bridge will be open to motorists.

CORPUS CHRISTI – Beginning Saturday, October 5, 2019 the newly constructed Staples Street Bridge will be open to motorists. The original structure was demolished and reconstructed as part of the Harbor Bridge Project. The new bridge will connect Staples Street between Leopard Street and Winnebago Street. Construction on Martin Luther King Street and Antelope Street is ongoing.

Pedestrian access will be available via the Staples Street Bridge, as the Alameda Street Pedestrian Bridge will close immediately following the opening of the newly constructed Staples Street Bridge. Crews will work to remove the trellis located on the Alameda Street Pedestrian Bridge. The trellis will be stored and repurposed on the project as part of the landscaping design. After the trellis is removed, the Alameda Street Pedestrian Bridge will be demolished, which is expected to take place mid-October.

The Alameda Street Pedestrian Bridge will not be reconstructed and will remain a permanent closure. Pedestrians seeking access in this area will need to utilize the newly constructed Staples Street Bridge.

Motorists are urged to be aware of the lane closures, to consider using alternate routes to avoid delay, to follow all traffic control devices, and to slow down in the work zones.
