On September 25, mainlane closures to affect US 181 and IH 37

CORPUS CHRISTI –Full Weekend Closure - Rescheduled Due to Weather

New Dates: Beginning Friday, September 25, at 9:00 pm through 6:00 am, Monday, September 28, the right mainlane of southbound US 181 to northbound IH 37 will be closed for the construction of the new Port Avenue exit ramp. One lane will remain open through this area.

Message boards will be in place to alert motorists.

Motorists are urged to be aware of the mainlane closure, consider using alternate routes, follow all traffic control devices, and to slow down in the work zones. All work is weather permitting.

1. The new bridge is expected to last 170 years.

2. Includes LED lighting feature, belvedere and shared-use path.

3. Main Tower Height = 538 ft

4. The base of each bridge tower is roughly the size of two basketball courts.

5. Once complete, will be the longest cable stay bridge in the United States.

6. Main Span Length = 1661 ft

7. Clearance = 205 ft above water

8. The length of the main span of the bridge is equivalent to the length of 5 ½ football fields.

9. Once complete, will be the tallest structure in South Texas.
