CORPUS CHRISTI –The major IH 37 traffic shift scheduled to take place on Wednesday, September 11 has now been rescheduled for Wednesday, September 18 due to rain delays experienced last week.
The northbound and southbound main lanes of IH 37 will be shifted from the existing northbound side of IH 37 to the recently constructed southbound side of IH 37 as part of construction related to the Harbor Bridge Project. The long-term traffic shift is scheduled to go into effect Wednesday, September 18, 2019 and will last approximately one year. All work is weather permitting.
Various short-term closures will be in effect in preparation for the continued long-term lane reductions and new traffic shift. A detailed listing of traffic impacts is included below.
Short-Term Closures
Beginning September 9, 2019 to October 30, 2019 various daily and nightly lane closures on IH 37 will take place between Buddy Lawrence Drive and State Highway 286 (Crosstown Expressway) in preparation for continued long-term lane reductions and new traffic shift listed below.
Continued Long-Term Lane Reductions/New Traffic Shift
Beginning September 18, 2019 the continued lane reductions and new traffic shift will be in effect for approximately one year:
- IH 37 northbound shifts to IH 37 southbound main lanes.
- IH 37 current northbound lane reductions will remain in place and will begin at State Highway 286 (Crosstown Expressway) and continue to Buddy Lawrence Drive.
- IH 37 current southbound lane reductions will begin at Buddy Lawrence Drive and continue to State Highway 286 (Crosstown Expressway).
Motorists are urged to be aware of the lane closures, to consider using alternate routes to avoid delay, to follow all traffic control devices, and to slow down in the work zones.
