The Harbor Bridge Project announces the opening of a new bridge and extended IH 37 eastbound frontage road to access the Uptown Area and a ramp for northbound US 181 towards North Beach. Permanent new access to be in place beginning today.

CORPUS CHRISTI – Beginning today at 1 pm, November 22, a new bridge will permanently open connecting the IH 37 eastbound frontage road from Port Avenue to Staples Street and northbound US 181 towards North Beach.

The new route provides improved access for commuters and residents along IH 37.

Motorists are urged to be aware of the new route and to slow down in the work zones. All work is weather permitting.

2. Includes LED lighting feature, belvedere and shared-use path.

3. Main Tower Height = 538 ft

4. The base of each bridge tower is roughly the size of two basketball courts.

5. Once complete, will be the longest cable stay bridge in the United States.

6. Main Span Length = 1661 ft

7. Clearance = 205 ft above water

8. The length of the main span of the bridge is equivalent to the length of 5 ½ football fields.

9. Once complete, will be the tallest structure in South Texas.
