Upcoming Harbor Bridge Project FULL IH 37 weekend closures for a direct connector traffic switch to affect all northbound and southbound IH 37 lanes around the SH 286 (Crosstown Expressway) Interchange, August 27 – 29

CORPUS CHRISTI – Beginning Friday, August 27 at 9 pm, through Sunday, August 29, all northbound and southbound IH 37 mainlanes will be closed near the IH 37 and SH 286 Interchange. Upon reopening IH 37, motorists heading southbound on IH 37 to southbound SH 286 will be shifted onto the connector ramp previously used for northbound traffic.  The closure and connector ramp shift are necessary to continue constructing new direct connectors at the South Interchange or future tie-in point of IH 37, SH 286, and US 181. Please refer to the attached map to identify the long-term connector ramp shift.

The following detours will be in place during the weekend-long IH 37 closure:

Motorists heading northbound on IH 37 from the Harbor Bridge will take the Port Avenue exit ramp and remain on the Martin Luther King Drive frontage road to reenter northbound IH 37 near Stillman Avenue.

Motorists leaving the Bayfront area will follow the detour signs to Chaparral Street, left on Belden Street, left on Tancahua , and right on Martin Luther King Drive to reenter northbound IH 37 near Stillman Avenue.

Motorists heading southbound on IH 37 towards the Bayfront, Uptown, and North Beach will take the Port Avenue exit and follow the detour signs to Leopard Street to merge onto southbound  SH 286, make a U-turn at Tarlton Avenue, and continue northbound on SH 286 to the new northbound US 181 and Antelope Street exit.

Portable message signs will be in place to assist motorists with navigating the alternate routes.

Motorists are urged to be aware of the full freeway closure, consider using alternate routes, follow all traffic control devices, and to slow down in the work zones.  All work is weather permitting.
